A business is a private establishment; it is allowed to craft its own rules and regulations. In practical terms, this means that subject to the limitations of the law; they can do whatever they want within their private property. No Shirt No Service
Okay, this rule shouldn't be taken literally. Unless your business is some beach resort chances are you are very unlikely to encounter half-naked people trying to enter your business. In practical terms, this refers to requiring a dress code. In fancy restaurants, there is a minimum dress code that must be adhered to. The same might hold true for clubs and discos. After all, if people dress up to go to a nice place they might expect that others would make a similar effort as well to dress well. Reserve the Right to Refuse Entry Like the dress code requirement, the right to refuse entry has to be taken with a grain of salt. There are laws on the books that state that you cannot discriminate based on race, sex, ethnicity, and a slew of other identity features. You can thank the law and the civil rights era for this. Then again it doesn't make sense to bar people because of the color of their skin or their gender. The right to refuse entry can be applied to people who are obviously there to cause trouble or who appear to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Naturally, you want to cater to your patrons, so people who obviously want to disrupt things can be barred from entry. Pay As You Order / No Credit. This policy makes sense for diners and other "working class" businesses. This has to do with the type of person who walks into the business. The idea is that there is a risk that people will try to skip out on the bill. No Credit is also a rule for "working class" establishments for the same reason. It is likely that the people who walk are working class people who don't really have lots of money so if you end up giving them credit, they may not have the means to repay that debt.
