When you’re so excited to move into your new house, you sometimes forget to do important things. Although they are not very serious mistakes, doing them takes a lot of responsibility and a dose of foresight. Indeed, you need to think out these steps in advance before just simply moving into a new house and having regrets. Here is a list of five things that you should check before you move into a new house. Internet and Cable
Unless you want to be without cable TV or the Internet for the next two weeks, call the cable and Internet provider in advance in order to set an appointment with them. In that way, you will not have to wait for many days anymore or, chances are, they have finished the cable and Internet installations even before you move in. Keep in mind though that some apartment buildings already have joint contracts with one particular service, so you have to consult with the owners first. Securing the Locks Change the locks to the door and to the building as soon as you can. The previous owners of the place may have had the keys duplicated to their advantage. The best thing to do is to get to a locksmith and have the locks changed immediately. Even if you trust them, do not use the keys that the previous owners gave you. In securing your place, make sure too that the smoke detectors are working well. Bug Treatment When you get to your new house, spray for bugs first. Do this before you transport all your things into the new house. Bugs can destroy your stuff like your books and clothes. Ants and bedbugs can also be a pain in the rear if you do not take care of them right away. Clean everything first and proceed to spray. Your spray should also kill mosquitoes and cockroaches. Garage Door Reprogramming When you get to the garage doors, make sure that they now have a different lock combination from before. Reprogram them if you can. If you cannot do it by yourself, ask someone who knows or call a manufacturer for technical assistance. This should protect your car in the long run. General Cleaning Before you move into your new house or apartment, make sure that everything is clean. Clean out the carpets and cabinets. Do the same to the toilet seats and the bathroom itself. You should do this to the kitchen too before you unpack your dishes. Nothing beats a clean environment for you and your kids’ safety. Some Final Words Moving into a new house is not as simple as just packing up and living there. You should always learn how to think in advance in order to help yourself and the family have a clean environment to live in. Use this information in case you will relocate again in the near future.
